About

Who are we?

We are Krystal Ankawi, Lindsay Fisher-Collie, Heather Lander & Rachel Loria. First year graduate students at Wayne State University studying Library & Information Science.

Our mission:

To blog collaboratively on the topic of current issues and trends pertinent to our field of study.

Krystal studies and works full-time for Wayne State University.  She is 23 years old and lives in the Metro-Detroit Area.  She is the Wayne State University co-chair for the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure and is very passionate about the cause.  In her free time, Krystal enjoys reading (of course), scrapbooking, shopping, going to Red Wings games, and spending a lot of money going to concerts in the summer at DTE.  There isn't much she wouldn't do for her niece and 2 godsons.

Lindsay resides in Lansing, MI where she works as a library clerk at the downtown branch of the Capital Area District Library. She has been gaining experience in public libraries since 2008, previously working at the Urbana Free Library in Urbana, IL. Not surprisingly, Lindsay is focusing her LIS studies at Wayne State on public libraries and hopes to one day concentrate on outreach initiatives. For fun, Lindsay enjoys reading memoirs, eating sweet treats, playing with her furry babies (Magnolia & Moose) and adventuring with her man.

Heather lives in Negaunee, MI with her husband and their 2 Gordon Setters, Bandit and Cash. She works full-time as a Lead Preschool Teacher for Vandenboom Child Development Center (1 of only 2 accredited preschools in the Upper Peninsula). Heather is focusing her LIS studies on Public Library Services to Children and Young Adults and hopes to eventually become a Children’s Librarian. In her free time, Heather enjoys reading (recently more YA literature), volunteering, cooking, crafting, and spending time with her hubby and pups.

Rachel lives in Oak Park, MI and works in the Support Services department at the Novi Public Library.  She is 22 years old and just graduated from Alma College in August 2011 with a degree in English Literature. She has been working in libraries virtually her entire career life--beginning with an internship at the Newberry Library in Chicago, IL--and continuing on as a Student Supervisor at the Alma College Library.  Rachel plans to focus her graduate program on academic libraries, although she certainly is not omitting all of the knowledge she is currently accumulating while working at the Novi Public Library.  For enjoyment, Rachel does yoga, travels when time permits her, volunteers at a local food pantry and reads (of course!).
